BANK OF BERMUDA FOUNDATION INTERNATIONAL JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP APRIL 7 - 10, 2004 * * * * * * * * * * * Bank of Bermuda Foundation International Junior Championship is a Bermuda Junior Golf Association (BJGA) tournament. We are very grateful for the generous financial support of the Bank of Bermuda Foundation and the Mid Ocean Club and its members for providing the BJGA access to their course and facilities over the Easter weekend. OBJECTIVE OF THE EVENTThe overall objective is to provide as many Bermuda junior golfers as possible an opportunity to compete at the international level. We hope to meet this objective by attracting approximately 60 quality overseas players via connections with the "Jim McLean Future Collegians World Tour" (FCWT). EXPECTED PARTICIPANTS DIVISIONS - For 2004, we are having three divisions for boys 11-12, 13 - 15 and 16 -19 years and one open division for girls. The event is limited to 78 participants. All players will be expected to have a competitive handicap or play in a qualifier or be invited. OVERSEAS PLAYERS We hope to attract approximately 60 overseas participants through connections with the FCWT. The boys 16-19 years event has again been ranked by "Golfweek/Titleist" this year and has been designated one of the four majors by the FCWT.Click here for a summary of information on the FCWT and exemptions for 16 - 19 participants to future FCWT events for the top finishers in the Bermuda event. EVENT REGISTRATION AND GIVEAWAYS Participants should register on Wednesday April 7, 2004. Players are asked to Register from approximately 11:00 am to 3:00 pm in the Eisenhower Room across from the Pro Shop in the main clubhouse. Players can also register at the Rules and Caddies Meeting, to be held at Grotto Bay Hotel Wednesday April 7, 2004 @ 7.00pm. Players can collect their giveaways at the Mid Ocean Club Registration or at the scoreboard after Round One if you did not register at MOC on Wednesday. Entry fee for BJGA members is $200 (cheques payable to the BJGA) SUMMARY OF TEE TIMESPRACTICE ROUND; Wednesday, April 7, 2004. There are practice round tee times available from 11:36 am to approximately 2:30 pm off the #1 tee. EVENT TEE TIMES, IN THREESOMES: Tee Times for all three days will begin at 7:30 AM from the first tee only.MANDATORY RULES AND CADDIES MEETING There will be a MANDATORY Rules Meeting to be held at Grotto Bay Hotel, in the lower level meeting room, Wednesday April 7, 2004 at approximately 7:00 pm (after the practice round). It is expected to last approximately 30 to 45 minutes. Official tee times for the first round of the event will be available at this meeting. TRAVEL AND HOTEL INFORMATION Bermuda Sports Marketing Ltd is arranging special packages for airline and room rates for FCWT participants. The host hotel for this event is the The Grotto Bay Hotel. Overseas players 19 and under and still in secondary / high school, that sign up early and complete the event will receive a $200 voucher from the BJGA to go towards their Grotto Bay Hotel bill and other expenses. OTHER TRAVEL INFORMATION TAXIS, ETC. The Grotto Bay Hotel is located between the Bermuda Airport and the Mid Ocean Club. In a taxi, it is about 5 minutes from the airport (about $5 - 10 taxi each way) and about 10 minutes to Mid Ocean Club (about $10 - 15 taxi each way). There will be a limited number of "Event Taxis" who have agreed to a flat one way cash rate between Grotto Bay Hotel and Mid Ocean Club for players and family. If an Event Taxi is used the flat rates (including clubs) are $10 for 1 to 4 people and $12 for 5 to 6 people. Players and family members are asked to share taxis and to allow players to have priority seating to give players the best chance to practice before their tee times. Also, correct cash for fares is recommended (US$ are legal tender in Bermuda, with the Bermuda $ at par with the US$). The Mid Ocean Club welcomes players and their families to use the dining room and bar on a CASH ONLY basis from Wednesday through Saturday (i.e. no credit cards are accepted by Mid Ocean Club). Dress is smart casual. BERMUDA DEPARTMENT OF TOURISM SPONSORED ITEMS. The Bermuda Department of Tourism (DOT) would like to welcome the overseas players and their families. The DOT has arranged for all overseas players to receive a courtesy lunch at the Mid Ocean Club for the 3 days of the event (BJGA players also receive the lunch as part of their entry fee). The DOT will also be providing giveaways to all competitors. The BJGA is grateful for the support of the DOT.JOHN BARRITT & SON LTD. WILL BE PROVIDING COMPLIMENTARY DRINK REFRESHMENTS ON THE COURSE.
